Oceanside is the new name for the central Kawana region that is planned to transform into a world-class destination for the Sunshine Coast. This new regional identity will encompass around 100 hectares of land in the heart of the coast, taking in Birtinya, Bokarina Beach and the future Town Centre. It will also include a Learning and Transit precinct and a Commercial precinct.
At the heart of the $5.3 billion Oceanside Health Hub are the Sunshine Coast University Hospitals (SCUH) soon to be completed in early 2017 revolutionising health care on the Coast. There will be 450 beds available, with ability to grow to more than 900 beds beyond 2021. More than 3,500 staff will work in the new hospital when it opens and about 6,000 staff will be required by 2021. The Private Hospital opened in 2013 with 200 beds and 1,000 staff.
Oceanside is to be a vibrant 24/7 precinct with one of the most vital health and medical research districts anywhere in Australia. Just 1hr north of Brisbane and has kilometres of flat waterfront walking and cycling tracks, national rowing course, fishing, kayaking, beach, lifestyle, climate, shopping, education and ample dining options.
